Recycle NEW Comedy $$$

Win Cash for humor video - Keep America Beautiful (KAB) is conducting a video contest, which runs through October 21, 2011. Submissions can be anything ranging from a one-liner, to a comic strip or skit about recycling, but the video must show recycling in a positive, humorous manner. AmericaRecyclesDay.org
America Recycles Day is celebrated nationwide each November 15th, and celebrates the benefits of recycling through an array of awareness-raising events nationwide. To increase the buzz this year, national nonprofit Keep America Beautiful (KAB) is conducting a video contest, which runs through October 21, 2011. Submissions can be anything ranging from a one-liner, to a comic strip or skit about recycling, but the video must show recycling in a positive, humorous manner.

The video needs to be uploaded to the ARD YouTube page (youtube.com/AmericaRecyclesDay) by Oct. 21, 2011, as a response to a short video that explains the competition. The ARD Video Committee will vote on the top 10 winners and upload them to a YouTube playlist on our ARD page by Nov. 8, 2011. During the following week, the public will pick the winning videos by clicking the “like” button associated with their favorite video. Voting ends on America Recycles Day. See full details below.

The grand prize is $1,000 in cash, and members of the winning group (up to five) will also receive a prize pack. The second-place winner will receive $500 in cash. The Committee also may award additional prizes. More information can be found on AmericaRecyclesDay.org or by emailing americarecycles11.15@gmail.com.

About Keep America Beautiful, Inc.

America Recycles Day “Recycling is no Joke” video contest

Here are some rules (not the “official rules”, but some details you might need):
Send us as many submissions as you want – improves your chance of winning!
You can be any age to participate but all entrants under 18 years of age need parent/guardian consent.
To enter you will upload your joke/skit/comic video as a video response via the America Recycles Day YouTube page - www.youtube.com/americarecyclesday.
The ARD Committee will pick the top 10 entries and put them in a separate YouTube playlist.
Then the public will vote using the “like” button. At this point it is up to you to rally your friends, family and perhaps enemies to vote for your video.

So what’s allowed in this video?
It must be less than 1 minute in length.
It needs to mention America Recycles Day (i.e a call to action to visit the website).
Try to show recycling in a positive, humorous manner.
It should be original, creative, innovative, and unique (see official rules for copyright info).
It can be a stand-up joke, a group skit, an illustrated comic strip, etc.

How much time do I have to create all my laugh-out-loud submissions?
Upload your video by 3pm Eastern Time on Friday, October 21, 2011.
The top 10 winning videos will be uploaded to the ARD YouTube page by Tuesday, November 8, 2011.
Public voting will end Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at 3pm Eastern Time.

Now of course you want to know about the prizes.
The top 2 videos with the most “likes” will win. The individual or members of the 1st place winning group (up to 5 people) will receive a prize pack and $1,000 in cash. The second place winner will receive $500 in cash. The ARD Committee may award additional prizes.

More information can be found on www.AmericaRecyclesDay.org or by emailing americarecycles11.15@gmail.com

MARC MARON
COMEDY CENTRAL RECORDS RELEASES MARC MARON'S
THIS HAS TO BE FUNNY CD AND DIGITAL ALBUM ON AUGUST 9th

If it's MARC MAON's CD, then it must be funny! Maron's new CD and digital album, This Has to Be Funny, will be released by COMEDY CENTRAL Records on Tuesday, August 9th.

Maron is known for his incisive cultural and political commentary, mystical ruminations and neurotic insights into human nature. Recorded live last winter at Union Hall in Brooklyn, NY This Has To Be Funny features the comedian LA Weekly calls “devastatingly funny” at his very best as he gives his take on New York Hipsters, his "cat ranch" and The Creation Museum, among other subjects. The album is the follow up to Maron’s three other albums "Not Sold Out," "Tickets Still Available" and "Final Engagement," which are comedy cult classics. To celebrate the album release, Maron will be performing at Steve Allen Theater in LA on August 9th.

For over fifteen years, Maron has been writing and performing raw, honest and thought-provoking comedy for print, stage, radio and television. A legend in the stand-up community, he has appeared on HBO, Conan, Late Show with David Letterman, Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, two Comedy Central Presents specials and almost every show that allows comics to perform. Maron's book based on his solo show, The Jerusalem Syndrome: My Life as a Reluctant Messiah, is available on amazon.com. He is currently writing his memoirs for a new book to be released in the coming year.

His podcast WTF with Marc Maron, featuring in-depth interviews with comedy icons including Conan O’Brien, Louis C.K.,Robin Williams, Judd Apatow, and Ben Stiller, premiered in September 2009 and is a complete phenomenon. The show hits #1 on the iTunes comedy charts regularly, brags over 20 million downloads to date and counting, and has been called a “must-listen” by Vanity Fair and New York Times, among many others. Select WTF episodes began airing on public radio stations across the US in June.

Last year, Marc headlined an episode of COMEDY CENTRAL’s John Oliver’s NY Stand-Up Show and was ranked #7 in COMEDY CENTRAL’s annual Stand-Up Showdown.

Comics Bra Gets Deal

The Comic is Funny, The Bra Gets the Deal....

New York comedian Marla Schultz www.marlaschultz.com turned a mishap in a ladies room into a business opportunity—one she hopes will prove beneficial not only to her and her partners -- but also to millions of women who can now be liberated from schlepping large handbags -- thanks to her bra pocket invention, The Racktrap.™

Schultz, a professional comic, was performing at Caroline’s in NY when opportunity struck.  After finishing her set, she shoved her essentials—cash, credit cards, money and ID —into her bra and hit the bathroom. As she bent forward, gravity took over and everything fell into the toilet!  The next day she called her business associates, Jackie Saril and Karen Hertz at Squeakywheel Promotions, to recap her tale of bathroom woes.  After the story, Saril exclaimed, "Marla... you need a bra pocket!” Hertz agreed, and they knew they were onto something big.

Using their combined sales, marketing and public relations skills, they created The Racktrap, an undetectable one-size-fits-all bra pocket that holds everyday essentials including license, cash and credit cards conveniently in a woman’s bra and brought it to market in an innovative bid to free women from their handbags!

Designed for women on the go, The Racktrap made its debut on the Today show on Kathie Lee & Hoda’s 10am hour.  Following the initial airing, The Racktrap’s phone and website were overwhelmed with orders.

To date, The Racktrap has appeared on The View, The Doctors, The Wendy Williams Show, and many local morning television news programs as well as coverage in major woman’s magazines, Internet news sites and blogs as online sales continue to soar.

The thousands of women who own and use The Racktrap report that it is perfect accessory for running errands, running a marathon, travelling or anytime you don’t need to carry a large purse.

The three entrepreneurs are eager to break into the “As Seen on TV” world. “Based on hefty sales generated from a 30 second segment on The View, we think we have the next “SlapChop!” said Schultz.

Egypt Laughs at Freedom of Funny Tour

Ronnie Khalil remembers sitting in his California apartment watching the Egyptian revolution on television. He remembers the horrific images of a van barreling down a crowded street, while men on donkeys and camels wielded sticks and swords at peaceful protesters. He wondered if his family was safe and if his friends were alive. The last thing Ronnie was thinking about was how to make this all funny.

Ronnie Khalil is a well-known Egyptian-American comedian and co-founder of the Middle Eastern Comedy Festival in Los Angeles. But six months after the revolution, with Egypt's future still in doubt, Ronnie knows one thing for certain: the country is in desperate need for a laugh.

On July 6th, Ronnie will be headlining the "Freedom of Funny" Tour, the first stand-up comedy show in Cairo since the revolution at the El Sawy Culturewheel.  Not surprisingly, Ronnie was also the last comedian to perform before the revolution, holding an underground comedy show just weeks before, where he addressed topics such as sexual harassment and women's rights.

During the Cairo event, Ronnie will announce his candidacy for "Bresident of Egypt," a humorous reference to Middle Easterners sometimes confusing English letters. He will also unveil his plan for a "New Egypt."

Freedom of Funny Tour to Launch in Cairo July 6.

Ronnie and his fellow comedians, all local Egyptians, will have the difficult task of making light of the revolution, while testing out the new limits of freedom of speech, mostly with regards to politics.

"It'll be interesting to perform in a country where I was always forbidden to talk about Egyptian politics and let loose a bit," says Khalil. "I've saved more than 30 years of Mubarak jokes, though my 1991 joke about him wearing MC Hammer pants might be a little outdated."

Ronnie Khalil is an Egyptian-American comedian who has headlined across four continents, taped comedy specials in the Middle East and Australia. He is co-Founder of the Middle Eastern Comedy Festival in Los Angeles and has been seen on ABC News, NPR, Air America, CNN, FOX news, the European News Channel, Al Jazeera, and more.

Stand Up for Hero's

If ever there is something to laugh for...Stand Up for Hero's - our nation's hero's....
The Comic Bible takes a moment to reflect... and share.

Dear Friends,

I wanted to share the USAToday Op-Ed below that was published yesterday; written by Bob Woodruff, the co-founder and the spirit behind the Bob Woodruff Foundation.

Also, last night, we had the pleasure of honoring our nation’s heroes at our inaugural Stand Up for Heroes in Washington, DC. It was an evening filled with hope, healing and laughter.

Nearly 150 wounded warriors and their caregivers were in attendance last night.  Both the performances of Jon Stewart and Train were tributes to the service members, and entertaining for all.

Go to the website to watch the video about the Bob Woodruff Foundation's programs played at the event.

Thanks to your continued support of the Bob Woodruff Foundation, Together, we can make a positive difference in the lives of many brave men and women, just as we did last night.

Sincerely,

Rene Bardorf
Executive Director
Bob Woodruff Foundation

Op-ed: Bob Woodruff - Let's stand up for our heroes

By Bob Woodruff, Special to USA TODAY - Kindness
I know that most of us during this time of economic difficulties don't think everyday about the men and women serving in our military. But we have to remember that we are approaching a decade of being at war. It is almost 10 years since the attacks of September 11th thrust us into conflict.
In this decade roughly 2.2 million Americans have served in Iraq and Afghanistan. Less than 1% of our population has served there, compared to 12 percent in WWII. I remember during the days of the Vietnam war, our neighborhood was filled with teenagers who were heading to the battlefields of southeast Asia. The families with loved ones overseas were on almost every street. I was born in Michigan in August 1961 (exactly 2 weeks after President Obama was born in Hawaii). So by the time both of us turned 18, the draft was over and serving and enlisting became voluntary.
I did get a chance to go back to Afghanistan with Admiral Mike Mullen almost two years ago, and when we were there I asked one of the soldiers where he was on 9/11. He said he was in his 4th grade class. He was 10 years old when this war began.
As a nation, we need to do everything we can to support our troops. Those who are injured especially deserve help from the rest of us who have benefitted from their willing service. The injuries in these wars are often invisible. When I was hit by an IED in Iraq, my head injury was obvious. I was unconscious for 36 days but was surrounded by love and family and I recovered. But thousands bear the internal scars of hidden injuries.
Hundreds of thousands of servicemembers are living with PTSD and general combat stress. So are their families and friends who are the caregivers on this difficult road that is much longer than we could have ever anticipated ten years ago.
This evening's host Jon Stewart, together with the band Train and singers 4Troops, will join servicemembers and their families for a night of music and comedy at the first ever Stand Up For Heroes in Washington, D.C., to benefit our wounded. We need to remember that this isn't about politics, or about the war. It's about the warrior. This is our country and these are the men and women risking their lives for us. So let's honor them today and everyday and do what we can to help them heal.
Bob Woodruff is a correspondent with ABC News and co-founder of The Bob Woodruff Foundation, which provides resources and support to injured servicemembers, veterans and their families. Seriously injured by a roadside bomb while reporting in Iraq, he has returned to the air and covers a variety of issues from around the globe. To donate to the military through his Foundation, go to www.remind.org.

New Guns of Comedy a Hit!!

It doesn't get better than the StandUp360 Comedy Festival and Backstage, New Guns of Comedy Contest.

This contest, unlike many "New Talent" featured some of the funniest and freshest emerging talent in the business. Host, Max Alexander started off the laughter and it continued for these "New Guns of Comedy". Chris Distefano started the contest laughs and left the stage on a large one. Monique Latise also held the crowded room.  Leah Bonnema, Camille Theobold, Sarah Blodgett represented the women along with Emily Epstein who offered some fresh humor which garnered laughs. Mike Cannon was hilarious with his unusual subject matter. Tammy Twotone, a transgender comedian had a hard time winning the date-night audience but kept it strong and received rousing applause.  Jarret Berenstein’s smart observational humor was a stand out. Dan Schilling and his five kids filled another four minutes with laughter. Rob Santos, Yury Lubarsky and Eric Patrick were also at home on stage and the crowd ate that up. The deadpan Marc Engberg is uniquely hilarious with his singing ability added to his comedy mix. His version of Beyonce singing in the 1930s garnered continual laughing.
The audience were also treated to a few minutes from headliner, Dustin Chafin who’s left them screaming with his spin on being a meat eating southerner in New York

Judges, including festival producers, Carolyn Bernstein of TV Guide,  Tory an author and comedy writer including for the NY Daily News, and Comic Bible admit they had a hard time deciding on the finalists.  Guilio Gallorotti ‘s conversational tone, original bits combined with facial expressions made him a stand out and a finalist along with Jason Salmon whose take on growing up in Texas had left all laughing. Also chosen for the following nights final New Guns Contest was CJ Burney and Matthew Miller who were at home on stage, and big laugh winners. Howard Feller is a pro and deserved the recognition for his twisted punches which had everyone laughing non-stop. Ricky Velez did it again with his edgy humor. Aaron Kominos-Smith’s smart comedy included some of the funniest observations about temp jobs –ever. PS Aaron, Comic Bible is hiring!! Akash Bhasin was another well deserving finalist for his fresh, skewered take on his race which also garnered large laughs and loud applause. Truly all of the "New Guns" were winners and the audience left wanting more.

Don't forget - the New Guns of Comedy Contest Finals and the closing festival events ar June 4th..

Festival Opening a Blast!

That's right!  And you've got a few more days to laugh your seat off at Stand UP 360 Comedy Festival at Broadway Comedy Club NYC. www.standup360comedyfestival.com

The opening gala to benefit The Wounded Warriors Project was a hilarious hit.

The fun was hosted by Eric Patrick who kept everyone laughing and the long list of top comedians flowing. Dustin Chafin, Keith Robinson, Amy Schumer, Ted Alexandro, had the crowded house roaring with laughter before Judah Friedlander –World Champion– took the stage and of course, received screaming laughs as he interacted with the audience. The next performer, Jeff "The Fat Rat Bastard"  Pirrami had no trouble keeping the crowd loud with laughter. Always a funny crowd pleaser,  Kevin Bartini,  and Rich Velez, also brought on non-stop laughs. Another highlight of the evening was Mick Foley,  author, comedian, and well-known professional wrestler.

In Broadway Comedy Club's other rooms there were also great events featuring the hilarious Ladies Of Stand-Up 360 including, Helen Hong, Rachel Finestien, Leah Bonnema, Michelle Dobrawsky, Kate Wolff and Sheba Mason.
