Set to open this summer, The Stand Restaurant & Comedy Club brings world-class comedians to Gramercy Park in an intimate live stand-up comedy showroom seven nights a week, in its bi-level venue located at 239 Third Avenue.

Brought to you by Patrick Milligan, Cris Italia, Paul Italia and David Kimowitz, who each maintained a strong presence in the comedy scene over the past ten years through their company Cringe Humor, The Stand will undoubtedly become New York's premier comedy club destination.

Originally a website, Cringe Humor offered reviews and promotion of some of NYC's funniest performers. Having gone through many stages of evolution, Cringe Humor will now be opening its doors to their first comedy club and restaurant venue called The Stand. The comedy club boasts a 100 seat intimate show room similar to the venues where Cringe Humor shows were first produced. The Stand will also feature a 60 seat restaurant, serving upscale comfort food, with Chef Seth Levine’s restaurant group controlling the kitchen.

Founder Patrick Milligan began booking shows across New York City in April, 2004 featuring Cringe Humor approved performers. The shows became legendary in the underground scene and would eventually become fixtures in some of the most popular club venues throughout Manhattan. Cringe Humor eventually became part of the New York Comedy Festival and New York Underground Comedy Festival.

In 2005 Patrick partnered up with Cris Italia, Paul Italia and David Kimowitz and founded Cringe Humor Productions, focusing on developing programming for web and TV.  In 2006 the group created CH Entertainment, a management company aiding the careers of both established and up and coming performers.

Among their other endeavors, the company launched Cringe Humor Records in December, 2011 and debuted at #1 on the iTunes Comedy charts with Rich Vos' "Still Empty Inside".

Cringe Humor continues to live up to its legacy with the opening of The Stand Restaurant & Comedy Club. Get YOUR series Made!

Amazon.com, Inc. today announced that Amazon Studios is expanding its development efforts into comedy and children’s series. Amazon Studios is Amazon’s content development division that uses audience feedback to identify great, original entertainment customers will love. Starting today, series creators are invited to upload their proposals for comedy and children’s programming to Amazon Studios at http://studios.amazon.com. The best comedy and children’s series will be distributed through Amazon Instant Video, Amazon’s digital video streaming service.

“Amazon Studios wants to discover great talent and produce programming that audiences will love,” said Roy Price, director of Amazon Studios. “In the course of developing movies, we’ve heard a lot of interest from content creators who want to develop original series in the comedy and children’s genres. We are excited to bring writers, animators and directors this new opportunity to develop original series.”

Each month, Amazon Studios intends to option one promising new project and add it to the development slate where it will be tested for viability with an audience. If Amazon Studios elects to produce a series, the creator will receive a $55,000 payment, up to 5 percent of Amazon’s revenues from toy and t-shirt licensing, and other royalties and bonuses. Amazon Studios’ production company, the People’s Production Company is signatory to the Writers Guild of America and to The Animation Guild, Local 839.

To submit, a project must have a five-page description, along with a 22-minute pilot script for comedies, or an 11-minute pilot script for children’s shows. Within 45 days of submission, Amazon Studios will either extend an option on the project for $10,000 or invite the creator to add the project to the Amazon Studios site. If a project is not optioned, creators may remove their idea from the Amazon Studios site or leave it to get community feedback.

Amazon Studios new series development is led by Joe Lewis, previously with 20th Century Fox and Comedy Central and Tara Sorensen, formerly with National Geographic Kids.

Comedy at CinemaCon

The actor at least had some material for the Monday night occasion as he paraded through the audience of theater owners in costume and character as an authoritarian leader of a fictitious middle eastern country to promote his upcoming film The Dictator – before a late night surprise screening elsewhere. “I thought I was going to be the only dictator here tonight,” he said. “Imagine my surprise when I found out Jeffrey Katzenberg would be here.” He added that he was “pleased to be here to address Cinnabon” claiming to have stared in movies such as When Harry Kidnapped Sally, The 14 Year Old Virgin, and The Planet Of The Rapes. “I hope you show my film on all of your screens…Trust me, there are bigger bombs than John Carter.” Staying with the riff he urged Disney to “just shoot the executive” responsible for the film. “Wait a minute, you did” — an obvious reference to the company’s decision last week to fire studio chief Rich Ross. He told the industry audience that his “film will be released on May 16. As for your families, we’ll see.”

The shtick was part of Paramount and DreamWorks Animation’s effort to impress the exhibition community with the potential audience appeal of their 2012 slates. Jon Chu, the director of G.I. Joe: Retaliation called the film’s star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson “franchise Viagra. He brings everyone’s game up.” The actor, who was presented an award as the CinemaCon Action Star of the Decade, predicted that the film would be “a massive hit.”

Katzenberg presented extended clips from The Guardians and Madagascar 3 and brought Chris Rock on to talk up the sequel. Although Madagascar will be be up against “Spider-man, Batman and all this other crap,”  he says, “I believe the biggest movie of the summer will be Madagascar 3″ which he says reminded him of Pixar’s Toy Story 3. “It can’t get no better.”  But after Rock was through, Katzenberg — one of Hollywood’s most passionate evangelists for 3D — got a bigger laugh by asking the audience: “Have I ever mentioned to you guys how much I like 3D?”
